March 30, 2015 " Cleaning Mussels and Ice Skating"

The weather for this week was really weird.. it rained a lot or was warm... today there was a lot of wind too..  Today for P-day we went ice skating. It was a lot of fun. Elder Bareiro and I were going to email at the church but as we started, the electricity was cut... so we played ping pong (ping pong is a big sport here so all the chapels have a ping pong table) for 30 minutes to wait and see if the lights would turn back on, but they didn't. so we had to go to a ciber (or a place where you pay to use the computers).
This week was really good. I am really excited for General Conference this weekend. we are trying to invite everyone to go and attend the conference.Friday we had an intercambio.. I stayed in our sector and Elder Libonati come with me. He has 4 months in the mission and is from Uruguay. He is a funny guy and has a lot of enthusiasm. Toward the end of the day, we had already visited all the people on our plans and we didn't know what to do.  I had the thought to knock on the door at the end of the street. We knocked and turns out that the guy is inactive and hasn't gone to church in 20 years.. We could only talk to him for a few minutes because it was late.... but he works a lot so we are going to try and visit him next week.. I was grateful that the spirit gave me the impression to knock on the door so that we could find him... He thought that another member had told us to visit him, but I told him that I had no idea who lived here and that the Spirit told me to knock on the door.. that made him think for a while ;)  Saturday we had an activity where we talked to the members about the new program "BecauseHeLives" and showed them the video.. also I gave a talk about the resurrection and the Atonement. I focused a lot on 2 Nephi 9:6-10, 21-22, about what would have happened if Christ had not suffered for us.. I was really nervous because of my Spanish, but honestly, when I started talking, I had no problem reading the scriptures clearly or talking. I know that the Spirit helped me. the bishop also asked us to show the video during the 3rd hour of church so that the members who couldn't attend the activity could see it. Everyone loved it and have a desire to show it to their friends and share it through social media. sunday afternoon we visited a less active family that we have been visiting often. The dad and mom was being really stubborn and making excuses and I guess you could say that we called them to repentance... hopefully they can change their attitude and try to do what is right.. there are a lot of less active members who make up excuses.... but I am pretty sure that this new program and video will help a lot of them. sometimes we as missionaries, members, etc, focus too much in the principles, the church, etc, (although these are really important) and don't focus enough in Christ's doctrine.
I know that Christ lives and that he and to suffer greatly so that I can return to my Heavenly Father. Without him, I could not do it. Because of his atonement, I can try and do better everyday . I can have the hope that I can change and that I can become a better person. Share the video on Facebook or whatever and share your testimony about Christ. the best way to strengthen your testimony is to share it with others.(even through Facebook) and talk to your friends at school or work..
Love you guys. Have a great week!!!

March 23, 2015 "Happy Anniversay! ...one year since receiving my call"

March 27, 2014 Nathan opened his call to Osorno Chile.  He had many family members and friends there to share this special moment with him.

Nathan with his friends and cousins  the night he opened his call.

Nathan looking at his call with his uncle and his cousin Erin who had just received her call to Paraguay a month before.

Hey!!! so my mom reminded my that this Friday I will hit my year mark since I opened my call.. wow.. the time is flying by.
The beginning of the week there was a ton of rain and wind.. but it is starting to warm up now. They said that it is going to reach 18 degrees Celsius!!* (that is really warm for here in Puenta arenas). This week we learned about a big program that the church is gong to do throughout the whole world. they are releasing a video about Easter and we are getting special cards to hand out to people. also the church paid YouTube so that on April 5 I think the new video will be the only advertisement on that day or something like that.. we are trying to do activities to have people share the video on Facebook ,etc. to share it with their friends. The video comes out on march 28. So WATCH IT and SHARE IT with your friends.
This week we found a guy who is part of the evangelist church and wanted to read the Book of Mormon. We gave him one and explained what it is and the blessings we receive from it and we shared our testimonies. He told us about how he used to be emo and a druggie, but how he found Christ through the evangelist church and now he is a different person... he told us that he will read the Book of Mormon...
Also we talked with a person that Elder Bareiro contacted an while back but couldn't find him again. when Elder Bariero found him, he was a drunk and a druggie.. but now he has left drugs and wants to leave drinking and smoking... he cannot talk very well because he has a developmental delay but is really nice. It is so awesome to see the change in people when they leave the things that chain them down and are now happy. He told us that after we visited him, he was able to sleep a good night sleep for the first time in who knows how long. It is a little hard to teach him because he cannot read and has a few learning problems, but we enjoy teaching him what we can and helping him to become a better person.
There are a lot of people here who say to us that they believe that all churches are true because they worship God but in different ways.... and Elder Bareiro and I werew talking about it during our studies, and he said ´´all churches help us to become closer to God, but only one can carry us to Him..´´. it doesn't matter who says it, but if it is the truth, the Spirit will testify of it. That is why we can feel the spirit in other churches too.. but for the same reason that Christ restored one church, there is only one church that is the true church.. I know that the Church of Jesús Christ of Latter Day Saints is the church of God on the earth today.I am grateful to be a part of it and to be able to see the happiness that it brings to those who keep the commandments and live its teachings. I love you guys.... have a great week.

March 16, 2015 "Have an Attitude of Gratitude."

During this week  we saw a lot of rain...... and a lot of wind.... Tuesday the wind got up to 120 km/hr(75 miles per hour)... after our district meeting we went to a look out that is right by the chapel and we almost fell off the railing because the wind was so bad.
This week, Luis (one of our investigators) went on vacation to visit his family in Osorno for 2 weeks. But Sunday, his wife and son came to church and stayed for the other classes (first time that they have done that) and they liked it.. we are trying to get the young mens program to help with Diego  (the son) to befriend him and invite him to activities. The mom really likes church and likes the Relief Society.
This week Elder Bareiro and I have seen lots of divine help... at the begining of the week it was really tough.. we couldnt talk to any of our investigators (all were busy) we couldnt find any one.... but by the end of the week we found a lot of people who are receptive. Satan was working hard so that we would be discouraged and wouldnt work as hard and wouldnt find those people, but we continued on and received the blessings.
Friday I had an intercambio with Elder Whitaker. I had to guide the sector (even though I had only been there for 3 weeks) but it was good and I learned a lot from him. He was my first zone leader in Valdivia and now he is my zone leader again. He will finish his mission this cambio with Elder Bareiro.
Saturday we had our activity with the ward. We did the activity to start a Book of Mormon reading. We will read 2 chapters a day and we should finish it in 4 months. We did activities and watched ´´testimony of the Book of Mormon´´ by Jeffrey R Holland  (WATCH IT!!! SO GOOD) and we did an activity where we had clues throughout the chapel that lead to the Treasure (gold plates that we made out of cardboard). It was so good and I am excited to do this reading. ut we were really stressed out becuase 30 min before the activity started, we had all the clues ready to print out on the computer, but then the electricity was turned off because of the wind.. so we had to do it all over again by hand.. but it all went well.
They replacd the bishop of our ward yesterday.. the old bishop had been bishop for 11years.  We are excited to work with the new bishop. He is excited and ready to help..
I am glad for the trials we have in this life so that we can learn and so that we can learn to look for the blessings in our lives and learn to depend on our heavenly father for the things that we need. I hope all of you have a great week and try to look for the blessings throughout the week. Have an Attitude of Gratitude.

March 9, 2015 "I love being here learning about the gospel and teaching other about what I know is true.We choose our consequences. We recieve our ´´wages´´ from the person that we work for."

Sounds like all is well up there in the states.... down here the weather has been pretty good. A lot of wind and every once in a while rain. At night we leave the heater on so that we dont freeze to death... this week we have been reading the Book of Mormon a lot with our investigators. With the Family Quilaqueo ( the family that in which the father reads everyday), we have taught them 3 times this week. The first two times we have read from 1 nephi and we challenged them to be baptized on the 28 of march... unfortunately, the mom and teh 17 year old son said htat they wanted to wait until they recieved an answer that the church was true. The dad wants to be babtized, but he wants to wait to be baptized with his family. So we told them to read Moroni 10 as a family then to pray together and ask if the church was true.. when we went for our next visit, they had read but they didnt pray, so we read the chapter again with them to make sure they understood, then at the end we asked the mom if she would saythe prayer and to ask in her prayer if the church was true. Her prayer was awesome and she was really sincere with her prayer.. we are going to stop by tomorrow and see how they are doing. They came to church this sunday too!
So I had a really embarrasing moment while I was playing the piano for sacrament meeting.. the opening hymn was ´´there is sunshine in my soul today´´. As I was playing the introduccion I messed up a little bit, then the lady leading the music starting singing before I was done playing the introduccion, then I had to catch up.. it was a little sketchy, but after that it was fine..
Last week we visited an older lady who hasnt gone to church for a long time. She has had some awesome experiences in the church and was very active in leadership positions befere she went inactive. Basically she has a problem with some of the other members and with the bishop (which is one of the biggest reasons why people are inactive here)... I had the impression to read Helaman 3:33-35 with her and we challenged her to pray every day this week and that we willl do a fast with her saturday as well.. so on satuday we fasted for her and prayed that she would come.. and she did!!! It was so awesome to see her there.. it strengthened my testimony of fasting and prayer.
This week I have been reading in the beginning of Alma. In Alma 3:19, 26-27 says:
19. Now I would that ye should see that they brought upon themselves the curse; and even so doth every man that is cursed bring upon himself his own condemnation.
26 And in one year were thousands and tens of thousands of souls sent to the eternal worldthat they might reap their
rewards according to their works, whether they were good or
whether they were bad, to reap eternal happiness or eternal
misery, according to the spirit
which they listed to obey, whether it be good spirit or bad one.
27 For every man receiveth wages of him whom he listeth to obeyand this according to the words of the spirit of prophecy; therefore let it be according to the truth. And thus ended the fifth year of the reign of the judges.

We choose our consequences. We recieve our ´´wages´´ from the person that we work for. Just like in a job. We are paid by our boss... WHO DO YOU WORK FOR?? from who are you recieving your wages?? Work for Christ!!! how?... by doing what He says... what has He said?? TO KEEP THE COMMANDMENTS? and if we are not doing what He says, He will forgive us if we repent.. we can change. I love you guys so much. I love being here learning about the gospel and teaching other about what I know is true. Have an awesome week?? KEEP THE COMMANDMENTS!!!

March 2, 2015 "Miracles dont bring faith, faith brings Miracles´´ Transfer from Rio Negro to Puenta Arenas

So right now I am in Punta Arenas, Chile. My ward is the Magallanes ward. My companion es Elder Bareiro from Buenos Aires, Argentina. This is his last cambio in the mission.. so I will be his last companion (just like with Elder Dolinar). The members here are awesome. We have a family that we are teaching that are really awesome. The dad reads almost everyday and they have been going to chUrch for the past 5 weeks straight. So I am off to a good start;)....
Monday and Tuesday of last week Elder Holt and I spent a lot of time getting everything ready for the Hermanas that were coming in so that they would know of everything that they needed. Then we said good bye to some of the members and the our investigators. Wednesday we woke up at 5:00am to get to the terminal of the buses on time. (with all 4 of us, we had about 10 suitcases out on the street waiting for a bus at 630 in the morning).. we got to the Terminal in Osorno. Elder Linford went ot Entre Lagos to finish his last cambio (he will finish after this cambio too). Elder Holt went to Frutillar in Puerto Varas and his companion is Elder Ryan (from my group in the MTC). Elder Winward came down to Punta Arenas with me. We went from Osorno to Puerto Montt where we meet up with two hermanas and an other Elder who were going rdown to Punta Arenas too. then we took another bus to the airport 45 min away from Puerto Montt.W e got on the airplane and flew down to Punta Arenas... when we got there we took another bus to the Stake center in punta arenas where our companions were waiting for us. (on the bus there was two guys from the States who were doing backpacking)..  then we took a taxi to the house and left my bags there and we left to start working. Punta arenas is really pretty. Right now the temp. is pretty good.. but when winter comes........   the biggest factor is because the wind makes it colder outside.. I dont have any pics yet of Punta Arenas but I will try to get some next week...
Earlier this week I was studying about Faith... at the end of my studies I wrote down a phrases: ´´Miracles dont bring faith, faith brings Miracles´´. Sometimes like Korihor, we want a sign or a miracle to appear to help us or to strengthen our faith. But that is not how it works. Our faith is what brings the signs and the miracles. (Ether 6 talks a lot about that). There are a lot of things we can do to strengthen our faith. Such as reading the  scriptures, going to church and hearing testimonies of other, praying, adn doing the things God has commanded us (John 7:17). ..  I love you all and hope you have a good week!!!!
